Program description
This tour begins in the Salamanca Island Natural Park with an unforgettable hike followed by a traditional canoe trip through the mangrove forests, lagoons, and mudflats of the park. So close to Barranquilla, the Salamanca Island Natural Park is an oasis from the busy city filled with a diverse variety of animal life, including 33 mammal species and more than two hundred birds types.

Because of the incredible importance to the ecosystem and biodiversity of this park, UNESCO awarded it a “Reserve of Man and the Biosphere”, in order to protect one of the most important natural and scientifically relevant zones in the Caribbean. Being apart of the Large Marsh, Salamanca Island Natural Park is a piece of tropical retreat for hikers and wildlife lovers.

Itinerary Details
Program

After crossing the Magdalena river you will enter to the Natural Park, accompanied by an ecological expert from the local community. A path leads you in the dry forests and lagoons of the park, habitat of alligators and various mammals. The tour ends with a canoe trip through the mangrove forest until reaching the small island of Marchena. This island is an ecological paradise, where you can find more than 200 species of birds.
