Taironaka Reserve

 Program

From Santa Marta we will go through the interesting coastal road until we reach the Don Diego’s riverbanks (90 Mins). From there the journey will be continued on a boat going upstream ‘til we get to the reserve. As a welcome we are received with some typical patacones and agua de panela”. Later we visit the small Tayrona Museum to get to know a little more about their history and the way of living of this culture from the past to these recent days. We will visit a typical Kogui home called Bohío and then we continue going around the prehispanic terraces until we get to a small viewpoint (around 1,5 hours). The rest of the time is free. We suggest either a relaxing bath in Don Diego River, or any of the optional activities related to this tour.

Our program includes an ECOLOGICAL WALK TO DON DIEGUITO RIVER AND TRIP ON FLOATS: We walk through a trail full of exhuberant vegetation and Don Diego River to reach the mouth of Don Dieguito River into the Don Diego River. Here we can enjoy a relaxing bath because of the mix of their warm and cool waters. Later, we go down the river on floats to reach the sea.

 Optional activities (Please inform us before booking if you want to join this activities):

1. MEETING WITH THE KOGUIS AND ASEGURANZA RITUAL: During the afternoon we make a small ceremony at the Reserve’s Bohío”with the Kogis that inhabit the area. During this meeting we will have a brief exchange in which one of the Kogi’s leaders will answer all our questions. Then we will proceed to receive the Aseguranza”. This ritual, common between the Kogis, consists in making stable all the body’s energy with stones and water, so that you can receive a special blessing from one of the spiritual leaders of the community and a bracelet made by themselves in both of your arms. Ceremony’s Duration, around 45 Minutes. Included: Food donation to the Kogi indigenous community and interpretation from a Kogi guide.

2. KAYAK TOUR TO THE SEA: After having gone around the reserve we start a trip on Kayaks that lasts around 1 hour going down the river till Don Diego’s river mouth on the sea. Here you have a moment to take a dip in the river and/or the Caribbean Sea. After having lunch on the beach (lunch-packet) we go back to the reserve on a boat to start our way back to Santa Marta. Included: Kayaks, Kayak’ s guide, lunch-packet, transportation on speedboat to return to the reserve.
